Who is Dr. Timothy Lewis?

Dr. Timothy E. Lewis is an author, documentarian, and higher education leader whose work examines race, identity, and equity in American society. He is the author of the forthcoming book, Do You Know That You Have Black Friends? A Re-education on Race for White Americans by Black Americans (SUNY Press, 2026), and serves as producer and director of the accompanying documentary of the same title. His scholarship also includes multiple peer-reviewed publications on race and structural inequality.

Dr. Lewis currently serves as Dean of the College of Social Sciences, Arts, and Humanities at Harris-Stowe State University, where he leads strategic initiatives in academic innovation, student success, and institutional effectiveness.

A proud graduate of Tuskegee University, Dr. Lewis has received several honors, including a Resolution from the Missouri House of Representatives and recognition by the American Political Science Association in Political Science Today.
